I think that the final product of my internship project was great. I was able to make a quality piece of work that I wanted to show off. I think that what really made my project work well was be able to work with my partner efficiently. I think that we both had the same vision of the movie which really helped things run smoothly. One think that would have done differently is begin the project a littler earlier because I feel like I was rushed a little at the end of my project. One thing that stood out to me while I was making my movie was the whole process of pre production. I did not realize how much work there was to be done before you could eve start filming. Overall I am very proud of my project and I had a great time making it.
If I were to give another intern advice I would deffinetley tell them to take their internship seriously and try to find an internship that they really like. Because its not common for students to get this opportunity and they should really use it to their advantage. Some skills that are important at internship is to definitely be independent and to be able to work on your own. A lot of the time you will have to solve problems by yourself and you should be able to do that at your internship.
I have mentioned before in my previous blog posts that Digital Gym has made me realize that I no longer want to pursue film. It has shown me everything that goes into making a movie and I have come to realize that I am not as interested in it as I used to be. Although it has changed my major I still want to go to the same colleges that I wanted to go to before.
I am thankful that my internship taught me more about the behind scenes of film making. It showed me everything that is involved in putting a movie together. I am glad I got to experience the adult working environment. Internship has definitely made me appreciate school a lot more. I miss my friends and I miss the open more creative space that I usually am in everyday. I have learned that I could never do a desk job because I would not be comfortable sitting in silence starring at a screen all day.
Over the corse of this month I have observed my mentor Kania and saw that she is an unbelievably hard worker. Kania takes on many responsibilities and gets the job done well. I really want to develop these skills that she has so I can better my work at school. May life beyond high school has actually changed a lot. I now know that I do not want to have a career in film anymore and I definitely do not want a desk job. It is hard for me to work when I have to sit and stare at a screen all day.
At my internship my group decided to make a documentary on something around the neighborhood. Our two choices for topics were either murals around north park or putting a crosswalk on Kansas street. My group chose to make a documentary about Murals. We got together and wrote out what who we were going to interview and what murals we wanted to shoot. We spent a couple hours working with our fellow co-worker's Ryan and Max who taught us how to shoot B-roll and different ways to use the camera. I learned a lot about the production process and really enjoyed making our documentary. Internship so far has really taught me how to work in an adult environment and how to be more independent. Each person in our group had different roles in the film making process which taught me that you need to do your part in order for everyone to succeed. For my IPOL I have created a slideshow about Digital Gym and my time here. I will have notecards that will help guide me through my presentation I will talk about my learning experiences and show my documentary at the end to my advisory. I am excited to show off my hard work. Communication is very important at my internship. Many projects that they work on here involve working with other people, and if you can't communicate to each other about your work the project falls apart. I have seen at Digital Gym that everyone needs to finish their jobs in time or the whole group to work well. If one person doesn't do their job right then the whole project could fail. Seeing these interactions has taught me more about an adult working environment and how different it is from school.
My final internship project is a documentary that we made about Murals around North Park. In the beginning our project was going well we planned everything out and discussed what we wanted to shoot for b-roll. Although we did run into a couple complications during post production. Myself and another one of my group members were gone for two days which made it very hard to communicate with the rest of my group about the project. Also we realized that the audio was not set up correctly in one of our interviews and at first we thought it would be unusable but after working with it for a little while I was able to make the audio sound good enough too be used in our video.
Compare and contrast the work week with the school week. How are your responsibilities, work, interactions, and time different? How might internship influence the direction of your life? What can you bring from internship to who you are in school? How was your work as an intern meaningful to your education? How was your work significant or meaningful for you beyond school and your specific internship site?
At my internship the work week is very different from the school week. A day at digital Gym consist of mostly working by yourself and not really interacting with your other co workers. Also the times that I start and end my day are slightly different. I get to digital gym everyday at 8:00am and leave around 3:00pm. I think that internship has made me realize that everyone needs to work together as a team for the whole business to run well. The work that I am doing at my internship has made me realize that I do not want to pursue film as my major anymore. For a long time I was interested in film and I wanted to do it as a career but as my internship goes on I am starting to see the behind the scenes of it and it really isn't as appealing to me anymore. Although I do think that the work that I am doing in internship is teaching me about is giving me experiences that I need to be able to work in the real world when I am older. I usually struggle with my time management skills. Although my time at my internship has really helped me improve in that area. I have seen that in a real workspace there is no room for procrastination and if someone gives you a task you need to manage your time well to make sure that you get it done on time because the part of the business is depending on the work that you do. This is me and this very boring wall I looked at all day because it was raining
